AUGMENTUM will make available its resources to support scientists in their research activities managing the philanthropic side of a newly built exploration vessel offering a mobile base to study the ocean and its complexities.
In 2025, the vessel will embark on an ambitious journey through the waters of the UK, Scotland, Norway, Iceland, Greenland, Canada, the US, and the Caribbean. It will serve as a platform for research in various disciplines, including oceanography, marine biology, marine archaeology, geology, environmental sciences, sea physics and chemistry, and engineering.
The vessel is a 60-meter state-of-the-art exploration platform with a beam of 11.3 meters, a draft of 3.45 meters, and a gross tonnage of 1,215 GT. It cruises at 12 knots with a range of over 10,000 nautical miles and 30 days of autonomy. Features include ice class certification, dynamic positioning, two 9-meter tenders, a diving center, four side cranes (4-ton capacity each), space for two 20-foot containers, a dry lab, workshop, offices, refrigeration, freezer facilities, and dual communication systems with Starlink and VSAT.
Researchers on board will benefit from accommodation for up to four individuals in two double cabins, meals and beverages, access to the vessel's equipment under crew supervision and support. However, travel to and from the vessel's location, legal permits for research, the loading and connection of special equipment, and insurance for medical or incident coverage will not be provided.
To apply for this unique opportunity, researchers must submit a written project proposal to AUGMENTUM, supported by a university, research lab, or NGO. They must secure the necessary legal permits for the research area, obtain final approval from the AUGMENTUM Board, and sign an agreement before boarding.
Through this initiative, AUGMENTUM aims to foster groundbreaking discoveries and promote a deeper understanding of our oceans, contributing to a sustainable future for all.
